RÜSTÜ DEMIRKAYA

Rüstü Demirkaya is a PhD student  at the University of Geneva, where his research is deeply rooted in the fields of Urban, Political, and Law Sociology. His work explores the complex interplay between urban spaces, legal frameworks, and political dynamics, particularly focusing on how these elements shape identity, power relations, and social structures.

For his Master’s degree, also from the University of Geneva, Rüstü concentrated on the study of colonial violence and the theology of violence. This in-depth analysis reflects his commitment to understanding the mechanisms of power and control in historical and contemporary contexts. His Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, obtained from the Global Studies Institute at the University of Geneva, allowed him to specialize in International Politics, further broadening his understanding of global affairs.

In his career as a journalist, Rüstü has shown a strong focus on human rights, politics, and cultural reporting. He has worked with news agencies such as Dicle News Agency (DIHA) in Turkey and Arti Gerçek in Germany, and he served as a Press Correspondent for the Mesopotamia News Agency (MA). His reporting has particularly emphasized political and cultural developments in the Middle East.

Rüstü’s commitment to social issues extends to his involvement in various non-profit organizations. He contributes to the Swiss Media and Communication Union, focusing on migration issues, and is a member of the International Federation of Journalists. He has also been involved with NGOs such as Minorities and People of the World, advocating for the rights of diverse groups.

His proficiency in multiple languages, including Kurdish, Turkish, French, English, German, and Spanish, has been instrumental in his academic and journalistic endeavors, enabling him to engage with a wide range of audiences and topics.
